01Property Photography in Glastonbury: Capturing Mystical Somerset at Its Best
As a property photographer with over 17 years of experience covering the beautiful landscapes of Somerset, Bristol, and Bath, I’ve had the pleasure of shooting homes in some truly unique places. But there’s something genuinely magical about Glastonbury. It’s a town that effortlessly blends ancient history and spiritual significance with a vibrant, modern community, creating a property market unlike any other in the region.
From my perspective behind the lens, Glastonbury offers a visual feast. It’s not just about bricks and mortar; it’s about capturing a feeling, a lifestyle. Whether it’s a modern eco-build with the iconic Glastonbury Tor rising majestically in the background or a charming Victorian terrace a stone’s throw from the bustling and wonderfully quirky High Street, every property here has a story to tell.
02The Unique Glastonbury Property Market
What makes Glastonbury so special for property photography? It’s the sheer diversity and character. You’ll find a fascinating mix of Victorian and Georgian terraces, often painted in vibrant colours that reflect the town's creative spirit. These sit alongside beautifully converted barns and chapels on the outskirts, offering a blend of rustic charm and contemporary living.
In recent years, there’s also been a rise in unique eco-builds and self-build projects, as people are drawn to Glastonbury's alternative and environmentally-conscious ethos. Architecturally, it’s a captivating mix. You can be photographing a classic stone cottage one day and a cutting-edge, sustainable home the next. Average property prices here can range significantly, from around £300,000 for a well-located terrace to upwards of £800,000 or more for larger detached homes with land and those coveted Tor views.
Properties with a view of Glastonbury Abbey or the Tor are, without a doubt, the most sought-after. The challenge and the joy for me is to do justice to these incredible backdrops. This is where my preference for natural light and High Dynamic Range (HDR) techniques really comes into its own. By blending multiple exposures, I can ensure that both the interior of the home and the breathtaking view outside are perfectly exposed, creating a single, stunning image that feels authentic and immersive. While some photographers achieve great results with flash, I find that natural light preserves the unique atmosphere of a Glastonbury home.
03The Power of the Drone: Capturing the Tor and Beyond
Speaking of the Tor, this is where drone photography truly elevates a property listing. All of my photography packages, from the Starter at £149 to the Ultimate at £349, include drone shots as standard because I believe they are essential for showcasing a property’s context and location.
An aerial shot that captures a home nestled in the landscape with the Tor standing proudly in the distance is more than just a photograph; it’s a story. It sells a dream. It shows potential buyers not just a house, but a life within this mystical corner of Somerset. The drone allows me to capture the relationship between a property and its surroundings – the rolling hills, the proximity to the town centre, and, of course, that world-famous landmark.
04Beyond the Town: Wedmore and Street
While Glastonbury is a focal point, I also cover the surrounding areas, which each have their own distinct charm. Just a short drive away is the beautiful village of Wedmore, with its elegant Georgian houses and strong community feel. I also find myself working frequently in Street, home to Clarks Village and a property market that offers great value for families and first-time buyers. Having worked as a property photographer across Somerset for so long, from Weston-super-Mare to Frome and Bath to Taunton, I have a deep appreciation for the subtle differences that make each town and village special.
Whether you are an estate agent looking to make your listings stand out or a private seller wanting to capture the true essence of your Glastonbury home, professional photography is an investment that pays dividends. It’s about creating an emotional connection with potential buyers before they even step through the door.
