Estate Agent Photography: Bristol Clifton Apartment with Social Media Shots
| Case Studies
A Bristol estate agent wanted to elevate their listing imagery for a beautiful apartment near Whiteladies Road and Clifton Village. I delivered wide-angle room shots, detail photographs, and portrait-orientation images for social media promotion.
A Bristol estate agent approached me to photograph a beautiful apartment near Whiteladies Road and Clifton Village. They wanted to elevate the imagery beyond the standard wide-angle set, so I delivered a mix of wide-angle room shots, detail photographs, and portrait-orientation images specifically formatted for social media promotion. As a property photographer covering Bristol, this is exactly the kind of brief I enjoy, one where the agent understands that better photography means more engagement, more viewings, and ultimately a faster sale.
This apartment sits in one of Bristol's most desirable locations, just off Whiteladies Road and a short walk from Clifton Village. It's a characterful period conversion with generous proportions, high ceilings, original cornicing, and large sash windows that flood the rooms with natural light. The current owners have styled it beautifully, with a mix of mid-century furniture, carefully chosen artwork, and warm natural materials throughout.
The living spaces are centred around a stunning bay window that looks out onto the street, with oak flooring, a woodburning stove, and an open-plan layout that flows naturally between the living area and a dining space. The kitchen is a compact but well-designed U-shape with herringbone flooring and clean, modern cabinetry. Two bedrooms both benefit from tall sash windows overlooking the rear garden, and there's a home office with a lovely coral accent wall and Juliet balcony. The bathroom features a distinctive blush-pink vanity unit with a marble-effect countertop.
The agent was clear about what they needed. They didn't just want a standard set of wide-angle photos for Rightmove. They wanted a complete visual package:
Wide-angle room shots to show the layout, flow, and proportions of each space. These are the bread and butter of any property listing, giving buyers a clear sense of what they're walking into.
Detail shots to capture the personality and styling of the apartment. The artwork on the walls, the guitar leaning against the doorframe, the carefully arranged shelving, the woodburner with its oak mantel. These are the images that make a listing feel like a home rather than a floor plan.
Portrait-orientation shots specifically formatted for Instagram Stories, Reels, and other social media promotion. Estate agents are increasingly using social media to market properties, and landscape photos simply don't work in a vertical format. Having purpose-shot portrait images means the agent can promote the listing on social media without awkward cropping or wasted screen space.
The main living area shot wide, showing the bay window, original cornicing, woodburning stove, and the natural flow of the space. HDR captures the detail through the windows while keeping the interior warm and inviting.
A second wide-angle from the opposite end of the room, showing how the dining table sits in the bay window and the generous proportions of the space.
A tighter composition focusing on the woodburner, the live-edge oak mantel, and the styling around the fireplace. This is the kind of detail shot that gives a listing personality and makes buyers remember the property.
The dining space in the bay window, shot wide to show the full scene. Natural light streams in, and the bookshelves add character and warmth.
A portrait-orientation detail shot, perfect for Instagram Stories. The bookshelves, the fresh flowers on the table, and the view of the period architecture across the street all tell a story about what it's like to live here.
The kitchen is compact but well-designed, with clean lines, integrated appliances, and a window overlooking the garden. The herringbone flooring adds texture and warmth to what could otherwise feel like a functional space.
The main bedroom benefits from a tall sash window and has been styled with sage green linen, oak furniture, and a woven pendant light. The high ceiling and natural light make it feel spacious and restful.
A portrait-format detail shot of the bedroom, focusing on the artwork, the plants, and the quality of the soft furnishings. This is the kind of image that performs well on social media because it tells a story rather than just showing a room.
The bedroom window looking out over the rear garden, with the reading chair and floor lamp creating a quiet corner. Autumn colour in the trees adds seasonal interest.
A tighter crop on the window corner, showing the quality of the furnishings and the lovely outlook. Portrait orientation makes this ideal for social media use.
The second bedroom is currently used as a home office, with a coral-painted dado rail, a wooden desk, and a Juliet balcony with views over the garden. The natural light and greenery make it a genuinely pleasant space to work from.
The same room in portrait orientation, showing the full height of the window and the connection to the garden. Another image designed specifically for social media promotion.
The hallway shows the quality of the flooring and the generous proportions of the apartment. Built-in storage keeps things clean and uncluttered.
A detail shot through the doorway, capturing the personality of the apartment. The guitar, the palm plant, the surfing painting, and the hallway bench all contribute to a sense of a home that's been lived in and loved.
The bathroom features a distinctive blush-pink vanity unit with a marble-effect countertop, a vessel basin, and clean modern fixtures. It's a room with genuine character, and the portrait orientation makes it ideal for social media.
Most property photographers deliver exclusively in landscape orientation because that's what Rightmove and Zoopla expect. But estate agents are increasingly marketing properties on Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok, where vertical content dominates. A landscape photo in an Instagram Story gets cropped to a narrow strip in the middle, losing all the context and impact.
By shooting a selection of images specifically in portrait orientation, I give agents content they can use immediately on social media without any awkward cropping or reformatting. The images are composed for vertical viewing from the start, which means better framing, better use of the screen space, and more engagement from potential buyers scrolling on their phones.
The full set was delivered within 48 hours, edited and colour-corrected, ready to use across all platforms without any additional processing.
Clifton and Whiteladies Road properties have a particular character that rewards careful photography. The period architecture, the tall windows, the mature trees, and the quality of the interior finishes all need to be captured properly to justify the asking prices in this area. Flat flash photography simply doesn't do these apartments justice.
